Originating in India and translated as "The science of life", Ayurveda is based on the principle that there are three biological humours within the body: Vata, Pitta and Kapha, also known as the three Doshas. The Doshas govern all aspects of the mind and body, and fluctuate in response to the conditions of our immediate environment, including the rhythms and cycles of nature. Doshas also fluctuate in response to the food we eat and the impressions we receive through the senses. The balance of the Doshas is vital to maintain health and prevent diseases. Only when we are in a balanced state can we take advantage of our body's natural intelligence to prevent diseases of the mind and body, and experience health to its full potential.
